This picture, from the late
30's, shows a large ingot mold used by Carnegie
Steel. As seen by the amount of wheels on the train
car it is on, the mold is quite large, and has a
very big mass.
As seen by this picture, trains
played a major role in American industry during
this era. Almost every part of the production of
steel is run by trains. Not much has changed in the
production of steel since these pictures were taken
for Emil's books in the 1930's.
